Using Amazon S3 For Your Company’s Photos

Trovebox is an online photo and video management service for businesses that is used by small businesses, non-profits and enterprises. We offer secure photo sharing, group photo collaboration features, multi-user accounts and whitelabeling. Learn more about Trovebox and see our pricing plans.

You’re at the right place if you’re a company that wants to use Amazon S3 to store your photos but need an easy way to organize and share them.

I’ll talk about how Trovebox can be used to store, organize and share photos using your company’s  Amazon S3 bucket. Make sure to read to the end if you’ve already got a lot of photos in your Amazon S3 bucket to find out how Trovebox makes it easy to import photos from an existing S3 bucket.

Step 1: Sign up for a Trovebox account

The first thing you’ll need to do is choose a plan and sign up for your Trovebox account. It’s free to start. After signing up your account is ready to use but it’s configured to use storage that we provide. You’ll want to change that to your company’s Amazon S3 bucket.

Step 2: Connect your Trovebox and Amazon S3 bucket

Next you’ll need to connect your Trovebox account to your Amazon S3 bucket. You’ll need an access key, secret and the name of a new S3 bucket. We suggest using Amazon IAM to provide Trovebox restricted access to your AWS account but for testing purposes full access keys do work.

Once you connect your Trovebox and Amazon S3 bucket you can start populating photos into your account. You can upload through the website, our mobile apps for iPhone/iPad and Android or import photos from an existing S3 bucket.

Step 3: Get familiar with Trovebox’s features

Trovebox isn’t like most of the photo services you’ve used in the past. Inside your account you’ll find lots of features to make it easy to add your team members, white-label the site to your company’s brand, create public upload urls, securely and privately share and more. For more information you can visit our feature tour.

Step 4: Import photos from an existing S3 bucket (optional)

This step is entirely optional. But if your company has photos already stored in Amazon S3 then we can import those photos into your Trovebox account. To start importing photos from an Amazon S3 bucket you’ll need the same information as above; an access key, secret and name of the S3 bucket. This access key and secret will need to have read permissions on the S3 bucket you are importing from.

It may take some time to complete the import depending on how many photos you have in your S3 bucket. You don’t need to do anything else. We’ll email you once the import is complete.

That’s all! We hope this helps your company more effectively use Amazon S3. We’re always happy to chat. Leave a comment, send an email or mention us on Twitter.

    1. Hi Rayson, are you signed into your Trovebox account? If you’re not, then the S3 link will show up as a blank page. This is an error on our side. Once you’re signed in you’ll see the full page with instructions.
